FLOOD IN PAKISTAN

It was not long before the terrible and disastrous earthquake which hit Pakistan in 2005 that a flood came in the country which was even more destructive then the earthquake as the earthquake effected the areas of only one province i.e. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,  but this recent flood affected the areas of all the four provinces in Pakistan equally. The flood which hit Pakistan in 2010 not only left much disaster but also left undeletable marks on the minds of the affected people.

The flood started as a result of heavy rainfall in all the four provinces of Pakistan. Hundreds and millions of people are left without any homes or shelter and are dying of the lack of basic facilities. According to an estimate, more than 2000 people have died in the flood and a million are deprived of their homes. It is also estimated that the destruction caused by this flood is more than the 2005 earthquake, 2004 Tsunami and 2010 Haiti earthquake, leaving behind these disasters which were considered to be big before that.
Because of the destruction on such a vast scale, aid came not only from the fellow countrymen but also from other countries. But even such a mighty aid is as yet unable to make things better because of the faulty and dishonest leaders of Pakistan. Pakistan’s image in front of the whole world was shattered once again when the international channels started broadcasting that the funds for the flood relief are used very sluggishly by the Pakistani government and is much disorganized. Most of the aid provided internally as well as by the other countries, organizations and UN are being utilized dishonestly and there is disorganization. The president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari was accused of his absence in the country when the flood hit.

Hundreds and millions worth of dollars has been provided as flood relief but despite all these funds, the destruction is still on a wide scale and minimal improvement is made. There is a lack of supply of clean water to the flood affectees which is probably the biggest dilemma as unclean water is the root cause of quickly spreading diseases in the flood affected regions. The flood affected people are not provided with even the basic medical facilities or food which in turn makes the hunger stricken people to commit riots to get their hands on the food.

The little help which has been given in this regard is mainly because of the effectiveness of Pakistan army and the international delegations of volunteers who themselves came to the country to aid. The need of the time is that more and more relief is given to the affected people and proper disbursements of the aid should be made effective. The whole world community should join hands in these trying times for Pakistan, thinking only the sufferings of the affected people and do what everyone can in their capacity to make things better for them.

90210OMG!

I started watching 90210 and the next thing in knew, I was loving it and waiting for the next episode very week. So what was it that made me love it? Well, a glitz and glamour lover as I am, I was bound to like it naturally. Beverley Hills, the drama, the spice, the hot girls and the handsome guys, it all made 90210 one of my favorites. I loved the theme music and I had it as my cell phone ringtone for a long time.

90210 is a sitcom aired on Star World. The main characters are Annie, Ethan, Navid, Naomi, Silver, Dixon and Adrianna who go to West Beverley Hills High and the whole drama is centered their along with the teachers and the parents. I liked Adrianna’s eyes and sleek hair, Annie’s curls, Naomi’s bitchiness and I liked everything about Silver. From her name to her looks, I liked her a lot. And off course all the chic fashion. I liked Ethan and Navid both as they were quite handsome. The fashion divas, life in Beverley Hills, the drama, all the handsome characters, that’s what was rocking about 90210. It is a remake of 90210 of the 90s and is originally based on the book, Beverley Hills 90210.

But with the second season, I started disliking 90210 because of the same pattern, the hook ups, the breakups, the cheatings, the unfaithful relationships, it got to my nerves and I quit watching it. It was sick to watch just about the lame relationships and not one of them impresses me. I mean, why they can’t portray sincerity or love? Why is it always about lust and sex? Is elite American culture really so weak and sickening? Well, it is a matter not concerning to me. One season was a good watch but one season was enough as well!

Whomping Willow

Surely in some point of your life, you must have met someone who is rude, bitter and has a stinging nature, not only with you but with everyone in general. The person, who for any reason involved, takes a negative meaning for everything and always has a mouthful of hurtful things to throw at the person talking to him. And how about if such person is someone who is either a close relative or a person with whom you have a frequent dealing. It certainly is not a very pleasant thing and not something you would want to deal with. You very well can turn things around with such person with a tip I’m going to tell you.

And my solution is Whomping Willow. Whomping Willow is a magical tree in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, a tree with just a few leaves on it, with scary, claw-like branches everywhere. This tree looks like a normal tree but when it’s touched or someone approaches it, it thrashes wildly, flailing its branches madly and violently to hit the one who has come in contact with it. It ‘does’ sound like the kind of person I mentioned above, doesn’t it? Now the Whomping Willow can be calmed and immobilized by pressing a certain knot at the base of the Willow and it can then be approached.

So here is when my solution can be explained. See, Whomping Willow is very similar to that rude, stinging person. Hating him for what he does might not be the solution every time. Just like the Whomping willow, you have to find a soft corner of that person and then he would be like a normal like anyone else you could deal with easily. Harry Potter couldn’t pass and get close to Whomping Willow but until he found out how to immobilize it. Fighting the branches could only make things worse, similarly, fighting and arguing can do nothing but infuriate that person, and you despising him even more.

Another thing, no human being is bad. It is the situations and circumstances or the nature which makes him bitter but there is a heart full of feelings in every chest. Therefore, we should never make a firm judgment about anyone as being a bad person. It wouldn’t be easy and off course would require vigilance, patience and a little understanding of human psychology to find that soft corner but it will be there all right and for sure, again like the Whomping Willow, whose secret to pacify it is not known to all but to those who tried to find it.

What got me thinking about writing this blog was that I, myself, know such a bratty person who scolds and says hurtful things to me even when I’m nice with that person. And one day, talking and bearing with that person, I found something with which I was actually able to get that person in to talking nicely with me and our conversation went on and on, so much that in the end we had to say “nice talking”, a phrase you only use with the person you had nice time talking to and trust me, it was used sincerely and not just in formality. And I believe it can be used with any such person.

So if you come across such person and want to deal with him pleasantly, find a soft corner of his, keeping Whomping Willow in mind.
