CUTTING MY OWN HAIR

I have had long hair all my life and all my life there remained the problem of having a haircut that will turn out good. I went from one dresser to the other and I couldn’t really explain them what kind of haircut I want and even if I do tell them, some are too nice not to even listen to me.

The worst part was that they always cut my hair too short or not-just-the-way-I-want that will leave me finding ways to cover my bad haircut up, thinking about the waste of the money and my-hair-were-better-off-without-a-cut etc. I even got a weird nickname which is still stuck to me after all these years because of a bad hair cut even though that bad haircut grew normal after some months. So when I became a computer freak, I found YouTube like many other websites, a very useful thing. I started learning so much from YouTube and browsing brought me to videos on cutting your own hair and that was when my good days started.

People are so conscious when it comes to their hair that they are dependent on professionals for fixing their hair and trust no one else, not even themselves. I guess it’s normal as 99% people are like this but I tell you with my own and perfectly-positive experience that cutting your own hair is not difficult at all. It’s totally fine if you are satisfied with your hair dresser and have enough money to throw away to some bunch of professionals who just work their scissors in no-special-a-skill that you can’t do yourself.

I never thought that there would be a way out of my misery of not getting a haircut of my satisfaction but learning it from YouTube; I’m a pro of my own now. People are too scared to take a risk with their precious hair but think about it, even if you cut your hair wrong, it’s not like it will remain the same forever. It will grow before you are over your grief and trust me, if you cut your hair with the skilled steps, you will never go wrong. And also, you don’t have to cut the hair in a strict line or a shape that a wrong turn will mess it up. And it’s not only me who have found a way to cutting my own hair because most of the vids I watched told the same thing and that gave me even more confidence that I’m not the only one with this weird problem out there.

I will not start giving instructions on cutting your own hair but I would mention some main things. The first one being, it was not any ‘one’ video that I watched and I was good to go, I watched like six or seven vids and comparing all the tips in my mind, applied my gathered knowledge to my hair. The second, most obvious thing is to cut hair slowly and not just in one go. In the beginning, I even cut a little hair, let it dry to see the results and then start again and took me hours for just trimming the bangs but now I can do it in just five minutes. The main tip for trimming or cutting your full length hair is to bring the hair in front in parts and scissor it in just the opposite way what you know is done when your hair is back. Seems pretty easy once you think about it!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the YouTube people because of whom I’m able to cut my hair today with confidence and also to a cousin of mine who once cut my hair and messed it big time. I was pretty furious at her for ruining my hair but she gave me the inspiration that if she can ‘experiment’ with my hair, I can too. That’s another story how I got into her hands, being forced by my mom and being too nice to not refuse, which is not relevant now but I’m happy it happened because that incident compelled me to search videos on cutting my own hair.

All thanks to YouTube, now I can cut my hair as I want and as much I want. Other people, including my sister, may not trust me but I’m totally comfortable with cutting my own hair and I have also started to like cutting other people’s hair as I know now that’s it’s not difficult at all and requires no special skill that the hair dressers think they have the monopoly on. I have cut hair of some of my cousins and it was a success.

I got my bangs cut first of all by a professional and she messed up my hair like anything. I was doomed but I learned how to cut bangs myself and now I have perfect bangs (so I think!). After I mastered how to cut my hair from the front I went to videos explaining how to trim and layer hair yourself and I feel proud to tell that my hair are in layers which I cut myself and I can refresh my cut or trim my hair anytime I want not waiting to save the money and then going to some stupid hair dresser. And there is no such happiness as the sense of achievement you get after cutting your own hair and to know that you have saved a lot of money!
